How to BUILD YOUR MAGIC ROUTINE

Learn how to build your magic routine for your magic tricks, taking them from being just a bunch of random tricks to a WHOLE structured act.

What’s up fam?! Arnulfur here and I’m super stoked about this video. I got a question from John David Roadilla asking me how to make a routine out of his magic tricks and I decided to make a whole video talking about this subject. HOW EXCITING?! I know I’M PUMPED!

In this video I talk about my thought processes when creating a routine for my magic gigs. I hope it’s clear enough and easy to follow along :).

To break this down as simple as I can, this is what I think when I’m creating a routine for my magic gigs. Weather it’s on stage or a close up situation the thought processes is the same. This is how I divide it down: THE OPENER – THE BUILD (middle part) – CLOSER.

OPENER
This is a super crucial part of any act. I want my opener to achieve two things. I want it to set the tone for what the audience are about to experience and I want it to grab their attention. I make sure that my opener fit’s this and that It’s not to long of a trick. ( I want something magical to happen fairly quickly) I also want this trick to be strong BUT NOT AS STRONG AS THE TRICKS THAT ARE ABOUT TO COME.

THE BUILD
This is the middle part of my act and I use it to build to the close. Here I chose tricks that are stronger than my opener, but not as strong as my closer.

THE CLOSER
This is my strongest trick. Here I’ve worked the audience, they like my and I can take my time. Build up suspense to get that last climax as strong as I can. Here I go for the strongest trick I know, that fit’s this routine that I went with. I want the closer to make such an impact that they wont ever forget this moment.

Like you can see, when I’m building a routine for my magic I always want the tricks to get stronger and stronger. I also try to pick magic tricks that go well with each other. FOR EXAMPLE, if I open with an ace production a super natural way to go from there would be to use those aces in the next trick. I also try my hardest to make the story and pattern make sense, creating a sense of unity through out all of my tricks. I usually combine both the tricks and the routines to make sense. 🙂 You see what I’m saying?

You really take a few random tricks that have nothing to do with each other, and with pattern and story you can make them all fit perfectly together. I’ve done this a few times, super fun!

Again, I really hope this is clear enough!

Hugs to you all,
Arnulfur Hakonarson
